Hi! Thanks for stopping by. My name is Angela and I sew for fun out of my home in southern Wisconsin.
I started sewing by accident, really. I have a nice set of patio furniture with 4 sling chairs and in the spring of 2014, the fabric tore. Determined to not pay an arm and a leg for a new set, I went on a Google safari to see if I might be able to fix them myself. Turns out, I could.
I found an awesome company called Sailrite, whose site has tons of really easy to follow how-to videos, and they just so happened to have a video on how to replace the fabric on patio sling chairs. I watched the video and decided I was competent enough to sew a straight line, so I gave it a shot. It worked!
I bought too much fabric from Sailrite and not wanting to waste perfectly good fabric, I went back to their site to see what else I might be able to make and found a video on making a tote bag. So I made one. And another. And another...
I enjoyed it so much, things just spiraled out of control from there. I started this blog because I found myself reading other blogs, learning how to do things, and figured this would be a good way to join the conversation. For more on my origin story, check me out on Sailrite's blog here.
This eventually led me into wanting to challenge myself, so I decided to try my hand at making clothing. Turns out I’m pretty good at that too!
With clothing, I decided I needed a brand name. Something that reflects me and who I am. I wanted something edgy that sort of laughs at the juxtaposition of me and sewing, and so Holy Hardcore Handmade was born. Why Holy Hardcore? Well, that’s what some of my favorite mix tapes were called (yes, you read that right, tapes, I’m that old). Evidence below.
I bought myself some labels and that’s that. I’m glad you’re here, and I hope you find my blog interesting, inspiring, helpful, or just amusing. If not, go scratch!
